 Do you wish
to learn how to prevent
Diabetes?
 Do you suspect
you are at risk of being
diabetic?
 Do you wish
to live free from the
life-long medications
and health complications of a boderline diabetic?
If you have answered “YES”
to any one or more of these
questions, then this is
the program that will put
you on the path to transforming
your life!
Aim of the program
- Recognizing high risk
individuals for diabetes
mellitus.
- Preventing diabetes in
individuals with family
history of
the disease.
- Training in good lifestyle
to ensure the prevention
of
diabetes.
- Teach tools for optimal
physical and mental fitness.
|
Conventional treatments for diabetes
involve life-long medication and
no assurance against long term health
degeneration.
The Prevent Diabetes program uses
effective evidence based holistic
health practices and lifestyle changes.
This program will be led and supported
by a team of experienced medical
professionals, therapists and instructors.
Overview
of the program
1. Consultant’s review and monitoring:
- All participants would be reviewed
and monitored by a trained endocrinologist.

high-fiber diet
- Therapeutic nutrition with specific
food, which have proven hypo-glycemic
effects

Overall
experience of the program

While the serious work of paving
the way for a healthy life is the
focus of the program, we understand
the important role of a relaxed
and joyful mind as fertile environmet
for seeds of these new ideas and
lifestyle changes to be sown.
The ambience at Our Native Village,
the personal interactions, the delicious
food, enjoyable activities like
bonfires, nature walks and inspirational
films, provide a welcome relief
from the hospital-like austerity
of other health farms. This is a
life transfoming program and we
believe it will be a joyous experience,
celebrating a new beginning in your
life.

Evidence from Clinical Research
Psychosocial factors
in diabetes:
Several studies have documented the role of
psychosocial factors in the course of diabetes.
For example, the high prevalence rate (15 to
20 percent) of depression in persons with diabetes
is associated with fewer adherences to self-care
behaviors and decreased glycemic control (Gonder-Redenick,
2002). Psychological, emotional, related behavioral
factors, and quality of life are important in
diabetes management, are worthy of attention
in their own right, and influence metabolic
control. A range of interventions that achieve
benefits in these areas provide a base for developing
versatile programs to promote healthy coping
(Edwin, 2007).
Diet and diabetes:
Vegetarians with increased consumption of fruits,
vegetables, whole-grains, legumes, nuts, and
various soy products typically have lower body
mass index, serum total and low-density lipoprotein
cholesterol levels, and blood pressure; reduced
rates of death from ischemic heart disease;
and decreased incidence of hypertension, stroke,
type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers than do
non-vegetarians (Craig, 2010). Improvements
in insulin sensitivity and glucose homeostasis
are more evident in participants following a
plant-based diet compared with other commonly
used diets (Wolfram & Ismail-Beigi, 2011). A
22-week worksite study done on diabetics from
the Employees of the Government Employees Insurance
Company (GEICO), aged 21 to 65 years reveals
that using a low-fat, vegan diet effectively
reduces body weight and waist circumference
(Ferdowsian, et al, 2010).
Specific Yoga Therapy for diabetes:
The practice of thirteen specific yogasanas
for ten days has shown to facilitate glycemic
control. A study demonstrated a significant
reduction in fasting and post prandial glucose
levels, insulin glucose ratio, and reduction
in oral glycemic agents and insulin requirements
after yoga breathing practices called Pranayama
(Sahay, 1986). Yoga practice for 40 daysresulted
in reduced BMI, improved well-being, and reduced
anxiety (Kosuri & Sridhar, 2009). Another study
on yoga therapy has shown that practice of yoga
significantly improves fasting glucose levels
as well as HbA1 levels (Monro, et al, 1992).
Long term yoga practice (for 1 year or more)
is associated with increased insulin sensitivity
and attenuates the negative relationship between
body weight or waist circumference and insulin
sensitivity (Chaya, 2008). Evidence also states
that Yoga-nidra, a relaxation technique, effectively
controls fluctuating blood glucose levels and
symptoms of diabetes (Amita, et al, 2009).
