A holiday at Our Native Village can take you back to your childhood years, when life was simple and about kite flying, top spinning battles, catapult fights, marbles and hop scotch. When scaling new heights meant how high you could climb the guava tree and innovation was all about stealing mangoes from your neighbour's tree under his nose!

Evidence from Clinical Research

Lifestyle intervention for heart disease:
Research shows that a comprehensive lifestyle change may be able to bring about regression of even severe coronary atherosclerosis after only 1 year, without use of lipid-lowering drugs. Intensive nutrition and lifestyle changes have shown significant improvements in weight, abdominal obesity, blood pressure, and lipid profile – which are all the predisposing factors of heart disease, other than to even modulate gene expression in the prostate as demonstrated in a study done on men with low-risk prostate cancer.

Psychosocial factors:
Psychosocial factors are increasingly recognized as risk indicators for coronary artery disease (CAD) prognosis and they are likely interrelated. A study concluded that functional status and anxiety, with a trend for depressive symptoms, were related to experiencing recurrent CAD events.

Diet and heart disease:
Diet and healthy life style are mandatory for the treatment of CAD high risk patients. Numerous lipid lowering trials confirmed the beneficial effect of vegetarian diet in primary as well as secondary prevention. Mediterranean diet (that includes consumption of olive oil, legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits, vegetables etc.) improves DNA damage especially in the elderly and reduces processes of cellular damage (Gutierrez-Mariscal, et al, 2011).

Specific Yoga therapy:
Yoga lifestyle intervention retards progression and increases regression of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with severe coronary artery disease. It also improves symptomatic status, functional class and risk factor profile (Manchanda, et al, 2000). These effects were found to start within four weeks.
